Art Therapy

Art therapy is designed to help you think about and understand your thoughts and feelings. To help you express these more creatively and to manage them more effectively. It is NOT about making works of art.

Art therapy involves using art materials in the presence of an Art Therapist. Over time this will help you to express yourself and to explore your inner world as well as your relationships with others.

It is often extremely difficult to put into words psychological and emotional distress so art offers another form of expression.

A range of art materials will be available for you to explore and experiment with. You do not have to be artistic or experienced in art making in anyway. Art objects made in therapy vary and can include drawing and painting, collage and sculpture. The process of art making may help you to become more aware of thoughts, feelings and this can be as important as the picture you are creating.

Each session usually comprises some art making, some discussion and there will be time to reflect on the work you have produced.
