Solution Focused
A solution-focused approach is a practical and proven approach to positive change with individuals, families, teams and organisations. A solution-focused approach avoids the need to delve into the past to try to find out a cause of the problem and instead looks for solutions to provide preferred outcomes utilising existing strengths.
As solution focused practitioners we will help you
- Find what’s working and encourage you to do more of it.
- Stop doing what doesn't work and do something else.
The principles that underpin solution focused work:
- Change is happening all the time: Our job is to identify and amplify useful change
- There is no one right way of looking at things: Different views may fit the facts just as well
- Detailed understanding of the ‘problem’ is usually little help in arriving at the solution.
- No ‘problem’ happens all the time. The direct route lies in identifying what is going on when it does or does not happen/.
- Clues to the solution are right there in front of you: You just need to recognise them.
- Small changes in the right direction can be amplified to great effect.
- It is important to stay solution focused, not solution forced.
