It is natural and normal to feel ‘low’ at times, particularly through bereavement, redundancy, illness etc. it is your bodies way of telling you that you need some time out and try to protect you by taking you away from having to think of other things. Depression however, prevents you from being able to take part in normal activities resulting in more introspection and worry and poor sleep which then causes more worry and introspection. Some of us can be predisposed to worry and depression due to our upbringing/experiences and the way our minds think, however, depression can be managed and kept at bay allowing you to achieve your goals and hopes.
