If a person has been exposed to a traumatic event where they experienced or witnessed actual threatened or serious injury to self or others or/and the persons responses involved intense fear, helplessness or horror they may go on to develop post traumatic stress disorder. Symptoms may include flashbacks, difficulties in sleep or eating, avoidance of similar situations, people or places, loss of memory of the event itself, sense of failure or doom, lack of interest in normal activities and detachment or estrangement from others.
Children who have suffered abuse can often suffer from post traumatic stress disorder which goes undiagnosed. Alcohol and substance abuse can also be associated with past trauma that has never been resolved or diagnosed. The VK rewind technique is used by our therapists to help alleviate these symptoms without the need to talk about the trauma in detail. Wendy is also trained in EMDR which is recognised by NICE guidelines as a recommended therapy for PTSD. Our therapists can offer this to adults and children.
