Trauma

Many people reach adulthood having experienced some kind of abuse from a family member, friend or stranger. Abuse may be emotional, sexual or physical but has an impact on how you see yourself and how you believe others see you. Emotions such as guilt, blame, shame, anger and confusion are all typical for survivors of abuse and it may lead to bad thoughts of the abuser which make you feel ashamed. We do not believe that it is generally useful to talk about the abuse unless you feel it would be helpful; if the abuse has led to post traumatic stress disorder then we can work with you without needing to know the details. if however, you just want to move on then we can use future oriented questions which will help you focus on where you want to go.

The therapy we recommend for working with trauma is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing)
